The ASIT Toolbox
(c) 2025
The ASIT (Adequate Support measures and Improved capacities in countering Trafficking in Human Beings) project aims to strengthen the capacities of law enforcement authorities, judicial bodies, NGOs, and other first responders in identifying and addressing evolving forms of human trafficking (THB). It particularly focuses on new online methods used by traffickers, as well as the exploitation of vulnerable groups such as women, children, and men in precarious situations.
ASIT is aligned with the EU Strategy on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings and seeks to enhance cooperation between national and international stakeholders to counteract trafficking more effectively.
Project Objectives
Recognising the advanced methods employed by traffickers, particularly within the digital sphere, the platform places strong emphasis on the utilisation of new technologies and online research tools. These instruments are developed with the objective of facilitating the prevention of human trafficking, supporting the identification of victims (particularly those belonging to vulnerable groups experiencing precarious socio-economic circumstances), and aiding in the detection and dismantling of perpetrators and criminal networks engaged in human trafficking and exploitation.
Objectives of the Toolbox
The ASIT toolbox is designed to:
• Provide comprehensive analyses of information and data sources related to human trafficking.
• Present a catalogue of existing tools and projects developed under law enforcement and scientific research programmes, particularly those that support police investigations.
• Enable law enforcement authorities to understand the different operational methods used by traffickers by integrating the social and behavioural aspects of trafficking.
• Enhance cross-sectoral cooperation by identifying links between human trafficking and other forms of criminal activity, using advanced digital technologies.
• Offer a suite of ICT and digital tools embedded in a web-based platform, enabling users to collect, analyse, and apply data directly to investigative processes, ultimately, supporting the identification and prosecution of offenders.
• Promote the development of interoperable models among crime-fighting units and other relevant actors.
• Strengthen the monitoring and investigative capacities of all stakeholders through the application of the ASIT analysis and investigation engine.
• Identify emerging trends in human trafficking and support the formulation of policy measures, with a particular focus on improving services for the rehabilitation and reintegration of survivors.
This page serves as a central access point to ASIT’s digital toolbox, bringing together practical tools, research findings, and technological innovations to support the fight against human trafficking in today’s interconnected world.

The ASIT project has produced seven short videos, translated into Bulgarian, Catalan, Greek, Italian, Polish, Slovak and Spanish, to raise awareness about Ηuman Τrafficking and ways to prevent it.Each video highlights key challenges and offers guidance on how different groups in society can help protect victims and respond effectively.
The intro video introduces the issue of human trafficking, explaining what it is, why it happens, and its impact on people and communities. This campaign also aims to provide practical guidance on recognising warning signs and the steps that should be taken by those who observe them.
The first video focuses on the business sector, underlining the importance of observing, recognising, and reporting suspicious activities to prevent exploitation and protect vulnerable people. The second video highlights the crucial role of frontline professionals, who are often the first to identify victims and notice warning signs that may indicate exploitation. Their timely action can make a real difference. The third video highlights the role of law enforcement, who are often the first to spot signs of exploitation and come into contact with victims. Early recognition helps ensure their safety and protection. The fourth video focuses on the digital dimension, explaining how technology experts and online platforms can help prevent abuse, stop harmful activities, and protect vulnerable users. The fifth video underlines the importance of policies and legislation, ensuring victim-centred approaches, early identification, and coordinated referral systems.
The sixth video concludes that greater knowledge enables more effective action. It emphasises that raising awareness across all sectors is essential to protect human dignity and work towards a future free from exploitation.
